The blueprints for the Nellis Family Housing community mark a new approach to military housing. It breaks away from the expansive, non-defined housing tracts of the past and embraces the uniqueness of family-friendly and energy efficient planning. Overall, the design promotes community through a variety of common spaces and reinforces the individual through distinctive architecture and private open space. One of the focuses and successes of the community layout is the 5-minute (or less) walk from the homes to the majority of amenities (parks, playgrounds, tot lots, multi-purpose fields) . Nellis Family Housing emphasizes family living and a pedestrian experience.
The plan features single-family or detached duplexes with a mix of three and four bedroom homes. All units have attached garages, front yards, rear patios, and yards. The design for this project subdivides the new housing area into seven new neighborhoods or villages as described below.
